The people who run RKS are students too.
Fifteen of them, elected for one session. Every house has a PIC and an assistant PIC, and they are the first person a resident goes to.
How it is run
Four bodies, and they do different things.
The one that matters to you: the student committee that selects you never collects your rent.
JSEPP
Jabatan Strategik dan Ekosistem Penginapan Pelajar, under the Hal Ehwal Pelajar portfolio. Provides the houses, collects rent and deposits, and appoints the maintenance contractors.
KMUM
Kesatuan Mahasiswa Universiti Malaya, the parent body of JKRKS through the Sekretariat Setiausaha Hal Ehwal Mahasiswa. Announcements and resident complaints.
JKRKS
Selects residents. Welfare, check-in and check-out, and monitoring the condition of the houses.
House PIC
One PIC and one assistant PIC in every house. Your first contact for complaints, maintenance and keys.
Board of Trustees
The people JKRKS answers to, and the people it asks.
RKS sits under two bodies that are not the committee: the University department that owns the houses and sets the rent, and the student union the committee belongs to. Beside them sit the chairs who ran RKS before this session, who advise it now.

The job
What a house PIC is responsible for.
They are unpaid students with their own coursework. Knowing what is and is not theirs to fix saves everybody a fortnight.
- Keeping their house in good condition, and taking resident complaints
- Opening maintenance tickets and passing the ticket number to HEP
- Enforcing the house rules
- Recording rent receipts and reporting payment status upward
- Escalating anything they cannot settle to the Pengerusi and Timbalan Pengerusi
- Running check-in and check-out
