Six student houses in Seksyen 16, Petaling Jaya, for seniors who applied to Kolej Kediaman and did not get a place. You get a bed, a fan, and a kitchen you cook in yourself. Run by students, for students.

Five changes made this morning, and the problem each one solves.
Each one is stamped with the time it was made. The first four are changes to how the selection runs and move no marks at all. The fifth redrew the bands inside one criterion, so if you used the calculator before 5:15 this morning, run your figures through it once more. All of it was done before the form opened rather than after somebody got hurt.
01 Results come out on Wednesday. Offers go out on Friday. Reversed 19 August
If we offered every place on results day and then found a mistake in someone's score the next morning, the only way to seat them would be to take a place back from an applicant who already had it and had already told their family.
What we changedResults go out with no offers attached. Offers follow 48 hours later, after the correction window closes. A correction can now never cost another applicant their place, and the cut off we publish with the offers is the real one.
Reversed 19 August 2026This is no longer how it runs. Offers go out with the results on Wednesday morning, because the check the 48 hours were reserved for was run over every application first. Reporting a misread figure still has the same 48 hours, and an upheld correction is seated from the reserve rather than taken from anyone.
02 Every document is uploaded with the form, and nothing is asked of you afterwards.
Being asked for documents after you apply is worse for you: a request at short notice, over a weekend, for a letter that can take a working day to obtain, at the exact point where missing it costs you the place.

03 Anything declared without a readable document is not marked.
A criterion scored from a declaration nobody can check is only as good as trust. A rejected applicant would have no way of knowing whether we held them to the same standard as the person who got their place.
What we changedAnything you declare without a readable document uploaded with the form is not marked. Your application is not rejected, it simply carries the lower score and competes on it. The rule is identical for everybody and no member of the committee can waive it. Check your photographs are legible before you submit.
04 Nobody is dropped for one missed phone call.
Verification calls happen over a weekend. Patchy coverage, weekend shifts and a phone shared with the rest of the household all track poverty closely, so dropping people after one unanswered call would penalise the thing we say we are here for.
What we changedThree attempts across 12 hours, never one. After the first, a WhatsApp message with the actual deadline written as a date and a time, because you might read it eight hours later.
05 Criterion 4 now asks for distance in kilometres, not travel time.
A claimed travel time depends on the hour, the traffic and how you travel, so nobody could check it. Two committee members reading the same application could reasonably disagree, and if you thought your mark was wrong you had nothing to point at. The old table also gave Melaka and Sabah the same mark at the top, and those are not the same situation.
What we changedOpen Google Maps, search the town your family home is in, get directions to Universiti Malaya, read the kilometres. That is your answer, and we check it exactly the same way, from your town and never from your house number. The far bands are three marks apart against two nearer in, because 330 to 470 km means home at semester break while 145 km means home on a long weekend. The top band is a sea crossing rather than a distance, because from Sabah, Sarawak or Labuan there is no journey home at all short of a flight. Criterion 4 is still worth 18 and the rubric still totals 100.
The rules covering the rest of the process were written down and frozen before the form opened too: duplicate submissions, withdrawing, what the reserve list does, what counts as a valid correction and who decides one. Who runs it
The University set these six houses aside for senior students who did not get a place in Kolej Kediaman. The Jabatan Strategik dan Ekosistem Penginapan Pelajar (JSEPP), the University department responsible for student accommodation, provides the buildings, collects the rent and deposits, and appoints the maintenance contractors. KMUM, the student union, is the parent body and handles announcements and resident complaints. KMUM appoints JKRKS, the committee that does the day to day work: selecting residents, welfare, check-in and check-out. In every house there is a PIC and an assistant PIC, and they are who you go to first.
Before you start
Four documents. Photograph them tonight.
You upload as you go, so whether the form takes twenty minutes or a whole evening comes down to whether these are already on your phone. Phone photos are fine. No scanner, no printer. The writing only has to be readable.
Everyone uploads these four
- Matric card, front. If you have not been issued one yet, a student confirmation slip or a MAYA screenshot showing you are registered
- Identity card, front only. The back is not needed
- Proof of household income. Any one of: three months of payslips, an EPF statement, Borang BE or EA, a pension statement, or a Surat Akuan Pendapatan
- Proof of your family address. A utility bill, a quit rent bill, or a tenancy agreement. Cover the house number and the street before you upload it. We only need the area
A Surat Akuan Pendapatan from a Ketua Kampung, Penghulu, JKKK or an ADUN service centre counts exactly the same as a payslip. If your family farms, fishes, runs a small business or drives for e-hailing, you are not at a disadvantage here.

- PTPTN offer letter or agreement, showing your loan tier
- Scholarship offer letter, showing whether it carries a living allowance
- Death certificate, divorce certificate, or a guardianship letter

- Hospital or clinic letter for a chronic condition needing repeated treatment
- JKM or APM report for flood or fire damage in the past twelve months
- Your Kolej Kediaman result screenshot, if you were turned down
Nobody needs all of these. But anything you declare in the form without the document behind it is not counted, so upload the one that matches every box you tick.
What RKS is
RKS is not a Kolej Kediaman. It is six ordinary houses.
Each house has its own bedrooms, kitchen and living room, on a residential street in Seksyen 16. You live with the other residents, you cook for yourself, and you look after the house together.
There is no warden. No cafeteria. No block number.
Universiti Malaya provides the houses through JSEPP, the department responsible for student accommodation, for students who did not get a place in Kolej Kediaman.
Four bodies, and their jobs are different
The part that matters most to you: the student committee that selects you never collects your rent.

Six houses, 50 places open, one neighbourhood.
RKS 1, 2 and 3 are for women. RKS 4, 5 and 6 are for men. All six are in Seksyen 16, Petaling Jaya.

50 places are open this session, 25 for women and 25 for men. Most bedrooms hold four people in bunk beds and one room in each house holds two. Every house has two bathrooms, one kitchen and one living room.

All six houses sit in Seksyen 16, Petaling Jaya, on the streets that wrap around Kolej Kediaman Tun Syed Zahiruddin. RKS 4, 5 and 6, the three men's houses, are within a few doors of each other and are marked here. The three women's houses are in the same neighbourhood, a few minutes away.
The women's houses are not marked, on purpose. Publishing the exact location of a house full of women students on an open page is not something we are willing to do. Residents get the full address in their offer letter, once they have a place.
There is no walking or driving time on this page either, because nobody has measured one and a guess would be found out on day one. Your house PIC will give you the real answer at check-in.

The second list is the one worth reading twice. We would rather you knew now than found out in month three.

What it costs
RM170 a month, water and electricity included
That is the whole cost of living here. You pay nothing at all to apply. A RM170 deposit falls due only once your offer letter arrives, and rent is due by the 25th of each month after that.
The rate is set by JSEPP, not by JKRKS. If JSEPP revises it you get 60 days notice and may leave without penalty.
If anyone asks you for cash
Every payment goes through UM E-Pay, the University's own portal.
Nobody from RKS will ever ask you for cash, a bank transfer to a personal account, or a payment handed through someone else. If that happens, the person is not collecting for RKS. Tell your house PIC, the committee member assigned to your house, and they will take it from there.
Our first priority this campaign
Fair, open, and impossible to fix.
Every student who applies here has heard that things like this run on who you know. So the committee set one standard above every other for this session: the decision has to be fair, it has to be published, and there has to be no way to buy or arrange your way into a bed. Not as a promise. As machinery you can inspect.
Fair
One rubric, published before anyone applies and frozen until results. Six criteria that read need and nothing else, adding to 100, with no discretionary mark anywhere and no seventh criterion.
Transparent
You can score yourself before applying, you get your own marks afterwards whatever the outcome, and the full spread of every mark given is published for anyone to check.
No cable
Nobody can sell you a place, arrange one, or owe you one. Applying is free, every mark comes off a document you upload, and a declaration a document does not support is dropped rather than argued about.
If anyone tells you they can arrange a place for you, for money or for a favour, they cannot, and JKRKS wants to know who said it.
How to apply
Four steps. The form itself takes about twenty minutes.
There are fewer beds than there are applicants, so not everyone who applies will get one. Applying on the first morning scores you no higher than applying on the last, because every form is read together after the window closes. What does cost you the place is missing the deadline: the form stops accepting answers the moment it shuts.

Fill in the form
About twenty minutes if your documents are already photographed, closer to forty five if not. It is a Google Form, not on this site, and you will need your siswamail address to open it.

Wait for the decision
JKRKS reads every application against the same six criteria and checks every document uploaded with it. Results are not emailed. You sign in on the results page with the Google account you applied with and read your own marks.

Pay the RM170 deposit, only after the offer
You pay nothing while applying. The deposit falls due only once your offer letter arrives, through UM E-Pay. Keys are handed over after the payment clears, so bring the receipt to check-in.

Check in
Meet your house PIC, the committee member assigned to your house. You cannot request a specific room. If you want to be placed with a friend, arrive at check-in at the same time.
What happens next
Three dates, and where your result appears.
Changed 19 August 2026
Offers now go out with the results, on Wednesday morning, instead of 48 hours later. We had promised the opposite, and the reason we gave was a good one, so here is why it changed. The 48 hour gap existed to catch a misread document or a mistyped figure before any bed was given away. That check has now been run over every one of the 283 applications, by published rule and in both directions, before a single mark was published. Making everybody wait two more days to re run a check already run costs them more than it protects them. You can still report a misread figure, and the deadline for that has not moved.

The form stops accepting answers at the minute stated. Missing this is the one thing that certainly costs you a place.

Results and offers
Results are not emailed. From 10:00 AM you enter your matric number and your identity card number on the results page and read your own marks there, and your offer if you have one. There is no message to wait for and no spam folder to check.
If you are offered a place
The offer is on the results page from 10:00 AM on Wednesday, and you have a week, until 11:00 AM on Wednesday 26 August, to take it. Taking it means joining the resident WhatsApp group, and the link sits on your own result. After that, pay the RM170 deposit through UM E-Pay and bring the receipt to check-in, where your house PIC hands over the keys. An offer nobody has joined for by then is released to the next person on the list, so do not sit on it.
If you are not
There are far fewer beds than applicants, so most people who apply will not get one. It is not a judgement on your situation. You still get your own score, your marks on all six criteria and the cut off on your list, plus 48 hours to tell us if a figure was entered wrongly.
