Six houses, shared by people who did not choose each other. Here is exactly what you get, what you do not, and what everyone agrees to.
Before you decide
What you get, and what you do not.
Read the second list first. It is the one that matters.
Provided
- Bed and mattress
- Fan and lighting
- Shared kitchen and living room
- 2 bathrooms per house
- Water pump
Not provided
- Air-conditioning. Fans only.
- Wi-Fi. Use your own mobile data.
- Washing machine, fridge and kitchenware. Some houses have them. Most belong to residents, not to RKS.
- A guaranteed wardrobe or study desk. They vary by house. Some rooms have them, some do not.
You may bring your own portable wardrobe or desk, as long as it does not get in the way of the other residents.
The room
Four to a room, in bunk beds, with a fan.
Most bedrooms hold four people in bunk beds. One room in each house holds two. You cannot request a specific room or a specific bed.
If you want to be placed with a friend, arrive at check-in at the same time. That is the only thing that reliably works.
House rules
Everyone signs the same terms. These are them.
Expected of you
- Keep the house clean
- Pay rent on time
- Look after RKS property and report damage straight away
- Keep your belongings out of other residents' way
- Take part in gotong-royong
Not allowed
- Alcohol, weapons or illegal substances
- Unregistered people in the house, including overnight
- People of the opposite gender in the house
- Motorcycles inside the house. A bicycle may be allowed.
- Pets
- Vehicles belonging to non residents in the compound
You can park in the house compound only, and the number of spaces is limited by house.
When something breaks
Your house PIC is the first person you tell.
A fan, a light or the water
Tell your house PIC, the committee member assigned to your house. They open a maintenance ticket and pass the number to JSEPP, who send the contractor.
Rent, deposits and receipts
Everything goes through UM E-Pay, the University's own portal. Your PIC records the receipt number. Nobody from RKS collects cash.
A problem with another resident
Start with your PIC. Anything they cannot settle goes to the JKRKS Pengerusi and Timbalan Pengerusi, the committee chair and deputy.
